This was DIGICON 2019

A completely sold out house with 368 participants from 222 companies, visionary and lively lectures, an exciting race for the 4th Munich Digital Innovation Award and trend-setting ideas on the marketplace of innovations for cocktails and culinary delicacies – that was DIGICON 2019.

Strategy Day

Wednesday, 20th November 2019 – Understanding Digitalization

In the first session, keynotes were held by Dr. Volker Wetekam (Corporate Strategy Officer and Executive Vice President, Robert Bosch GmbH), Dr. Christoph Zindel (Member of the Managing Board, Siemens Healthineers) and Dr. Dieter Nirschl (Managing Director, ADAC), followed by a panel discussion moderated by Robert Jacobi (Managing Director, The Nunatak Group).

In the second session, Prof. Dr. Paul Lukowizc (Head of the Research Department Embedded Intelligence, DFKI) and Hans-Joachim Köppen (Technical Leader, IBM) outlined AI both from scientific and economic view and answered audience questions, moderated by Nina Ruge.

Wednesday, 20th November 2019 Experience Digitalization

The guests were able to exchange ideas, make valuable contacts and vote for their favourites on the innovation marketplace while enjoying culinary delights, good wine and other refreshments. The prize for the best market stand went to Tawny GmbH, a subsidiary of HYVE AG, with their innovation AI-powered Emotion Analytics for Eyeryone.

Thursday, 21st November 2019 – Applying Digitalization

The second day started with Dr. Stefanie Babst (Head of the Strategic Analysis Capability, NATO), Dr. Ralf Schneider (CIO, Allianz SE) and Daniel Mattes (Entrepreneur and Founder, AI-42 Market Intelligence Ltd.) sharing their knowledge on risks and chances of AI.

In the next session, Prof. Dr. Elisabeth André (Chair of Human-Centered Multimedia, Augsburg University), Andrea Martin (Leader, IBM Watson IoT Center Munich), Michał Sztanga (Managing Director, Future Processing) and Jean-Paul Schmetz (Chief Scientist, Hubert Burda Media and CEO, Cliqz GmbH) gave exciting insights on human centered AI and answered audience questions.

After lunch, Pitch Battles for the 4th Munich Digital Innovation Award took place. Winner of the trophy is deepc with the The End to End Guardian AI for Healthcare. The prize for the Digital Picture went to Vodafone GmbH with their contribution Fusion of the real and digital world.

Finally, Holger Martens (Managing Partner, DOCUBYTE HM GmbH), Benjamin Wimmer (Senior Consultant, Cassini Consulting AG) and Thomas Bönig (CDO and Head of IT, City of Munich) held impulse talks and rounded up the day with an excited panel discussion, special guest Stefan Rauch (Digital Innovation Officer, Iteratec GmbH) and host Nina Ruge.

ISAAI’19

Thursday, 21st November 2019 – Enhancing Digitalization

The first edition of the „International Symposium on Applied Artificial Intelligence“ (ISAAI’19) was held in conjunction with DIGICON, where 17 papers about AI methods and applications were presented by experts from science and industry in various sessions about Machine Learning, Autonomous Agents, and Quantum Computing for AI.

These papers were selected out of 35 submissions from 14 countries coming from Africa, America, Asia, and Europe in a strict review process conducted by the organizers Claudia Linnhoff-Popien, Thomy Phan, and Sebastian Feld as well as a top-class program committee.

In addition, there was an Industrial Session held by IBM about preparing innovations for the market.
